Hey GFGC! It’s officially fall, arguably one of my favorite times of the year. The time that the leaves have started to fall from the trees, and the time for us to look back on our recent seasonal impact campaign, the GFGC Summer of Water.
It doesn’t seem like it, but the GFGC Summer of Water campaign kicked off three months ago on July 1st, 2017, when we decided to further our impact and efforts in the global water crisis with community night streams, weekly board member streaming events, and the debut of our new charity event, Wiitendothon. Let’s celebrate the end of this campaign by taking a look back on our impact, shall we?
Our first ever Wiitendothon event, running from July 20th, 2017 – July 25th, 2017, was a fantastic success, not only in terms of fundraiser dollars, but from the perspective of attendees and viewers alike. After completing a ~125 hour marathon of 60+ Wii, Wii U, and Virtual Console Games, the campaign raised a grand total of $650, nearly doubling our initial fundraiser goal of $350. Despite being faced with technical issues numerous times throughout the marathon, the attendees pushed on, making our first scheduled event an outstanding success in its organization, structure, and entertainment. We want to expand upon these successes at our upcoming charity marathon in December, and we hope to see you there!

Thank you all for a fantastic event and a fantastic summer. Wiitendothon and the Summer of Water campaign had planning going all the way back to January of 2016, and their success and fun wouldn’t have been possible had it not been for all of you and your support. You made Summer 2017 one of our best summers yet, and we can’t wait to continue our impact into the fall and our upcoming winter campaign!
Since we’re heading into the fall, we’ll have a special event coming up within the next month to wrap-up our 2016-17 year, and kick off our 2017-18 year with a bang! The announcement is coming soon, so stay tuned!
Thank you all for making the Summer of Water so successful. The global water crisis continues, but GFGC has continued to make a dent in it through your support. Together we’re making positive impacts across the globe, together we’re gaming for global change.
